How fast are electric bikes? I am testing the max speed of my Luna Cycle X1 Enduro. It has the Bafang 600 motor, which is a 48V 2000W Mid-Drive motor. It does have the Ludicrous mode upgrade.
In fact, this is one of the best bikes on the market in price/value comparison. A customer brought his bike to repair. Took his bike for a spin and said pros and cons about it. That's my own point of view, not pretending to be true for 100 %

On November 28th, 2021, I broke for the second time, the Luna Cycle Bafang M600 Silent Gear (Peek Gear) on my Luna Cycle X1 Enduro EMTB with Ludicrous mode. The first time I broke it was 4 months after purchase of the bike (660 miles). This time it broke less than 4 months later at (1325 miles). This video shows you exactly what I was doing when it broke, proving that I was not doing anything unusual that could have caused the silent peek gear fracture. Be that as it may, Luna Cycle has agreed to replace the gear again. This time they've told me that they have a new model silent peek gear that is stronger than the one I broke previously. As of the publishing of this video the motor has already been shipped back to Luna Cycle for repair. A quick description on the differences between the Z1 and X2 for those who are trying to decide between the two which are both incredible good bikes compared to what is available at this price point.
This video is a complete unboxing, assembly and test ride of the Luna X-1 Enduro E-mountain bike. UPDATE 12/9/21 Alright so after making some modifications and getting the bike setup the way I wanted I’d say I spent another $200. I needed to cut some of the handle bars off and bc of the ProLoc grips (which have an angle cut on the handlebar metal that slots into a receiver inside the grip) I had to get a new cutting tool. I also had to tighten all the spikes (all very loose), true the wheels, get the derailleur in order (it was bent) and add air to both sets of shocks (so I got a digital pump). I’ve ridden it over 1000 miles and Frank currently lives under my bed in my adventure wagon. It’s been to 14 national parks and countless trails. It takes some constant regular maintenance and a good washing after muddy rides but it’s holding up really well! I’ve ridden with mostly non-electric bikes and some other style e-bikes but no other Lunas. It can handle almost any terrain and it’s easy to keep up. No issues with electronics or battery degrade. I’m charging using a solar setup in my van (message me about this if interested). I’d say I’m very happy with it still!

In this video I will show the moment that the drivetrain failed on the Luna Cycle X1 Enduro EMTB. I'm not sure what broke but I suspect it was the plastic (nylon) "silent gear" upgrade. Luckily I had already completed 4 miles of climbing in the 100 °F desert heat and I was able to pedal all the way back. I will update this video later with a total tear down of the Bafang M600 mid drive to try and repair after I speak with Luna support tomorrow. UPDATE: July 17th (6 days later) I’m pleased to say that the motor has been repaired and back in the bike already. I broke it on a Sunday. Shipped to Luna cycle on Tuesday. It arrived at their shop on Wednesday. It was fixed Thursday and shipped back to me Friday. Saturday morning it was at my door step. That’s what I call amazing Customer Service! Huge thanks to the amazing folks over at Luna Cycle for handling a warrantee issue so quickly. Today, less than two months from the order date, I received my Luna Cycle X1 Enduro electric MTB bike. In this video I will take my first ride in the McCullough mountain range (The Black Mountains) located just outside of Las Vegas in Henderson Nevada. During this test ride of the Luna X1 I will start at an altitude of 2,400 ft and climb to 2900 ft before descending quickly back down. In this video I will attempt to ride a black diamond rated trail on my Luna X1 Enduro electric mountain bike. This trail is called the Shark Ridge Trail and it is located near Olympia Sports Park in the Southern Highlands community in Las Vegas Nevada. The Shark Ridge trail Shark Ridge Trail is a 6.7 mile (round trip), moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Las Vegas, Nevada that offers the chance to see wildlife and amazing views of the Las Vegas valley. This is my 3rd attempt at riding this trail. On the first attempt, I was unable to find the correct trail. On the second attempt a large cactus punctured my front tire. Can I make it the full 3.35 miles on the third attempt? Watch and see... Quick ride on a new Luna X1 Enduro E-MTB today (thanks Jamie!). What a fun e-MTB! My regular e-MTB rides include a 2019 Specialized Levo Comp Carbon (47 lbs) and 2019 Specialized Kenevo Expert (54 lbs) both of which have 250 watt Brose motors and pedal assist to 20 mph. The X1 Enduro (55 lbs) has a 1000 watt Bafang mid drive motor with a thumb throttle and pedal assist. I went about 29 mph on a level gravel road on the X1 with pedal +throttle and could still feel some assist (not sure if there is an assist limit on the X1). This is my first ride on a pedal assist bike with a thumb throttle. The thumb throttle gives the X1 a different experience compared to other e-MTB's. ON the X1 you can stop pedaling and use the thumb throttle to maintain or increase speed. The thumb throttle does not feel as direct as a throttle on a motorcycle but more like a boost button to increase speed. The thumb throttle is another feature that blurs the line between mountain bikes and motorcycles. Some other things I noticed on the X1: the brakes felt a little weak, the dropper post lever is not in a great location for easy use and the dropper range seems limited, the motor can feel a little abrupt when pedal assist kicks in (not sure if there is a tuning app available to dial in the motor assist characteristics - the Levo felt smoother with a more natural feeling pedal assist). The Luna X1 offers a lot of performance for the money in an E-MTB. However the X1 does not feel as refined in terms of pedal assist as the Levo. The Luna X2 e-bike is the newest e-mountain bike (EMTB) from Luna Cycles. It is the second generation to the Luna X-1. Here is my short first impressions / review! We are riding in Oro Valley Arizona at Tortolita Preserve loop trail. This is a 9 or 11 mile loop (depending on which route you take).

Luna Cycles came out with a new gear for the M600 motor Some people wanted their M600 motor to be quieter. The M600 is not that loud, but a little more stealthy motor is not a bad thing at all. The new gear is made of PEEK plastic and it will replace an all steel gear. Video #1 shows how to remove the motor from a Luna X1 Video #2 shows how to open up the M600 motor and get to the assembly that holds the gear. Video #3 shows how to press in the new gear if you are having trouble getting it to seat into the cups. The Luna X1 has an issue where the 11 tooth cog skips. It's been reported by many owners. The bike comes with the derailleur set so that it will not go down into the 11 tooth cog. The issue looked to me like the chain was not wrapped around that small cog enough. In this video I adjust the B screw to get a better chain wrap around that small cog. I will be doing another test ride later today to see if that fixed the issue. Here is my bike video playlist 🤍
I assembled the bike and swapped out several parts The bike is finished except for the carbon bars Out of the box it weigh3d 53 pounds (24 kilos) I still have to take it out for a ride and dial in all the stuff like seat height, brake levers, etc. The sentence where I said it would go from 40 to 46 was supposed to be, from 50 to 46 pounds :)

Not really a fair comparison, just wanted to see how much faster i was on the beta. i probably could have saved 10 more sec. on the e-bike if i picked better lines. section is about 2 miles long. 2020 Luna x1 with ludicrous mod and silent gear, front chain ring changed to a 38t. 2019 beta 300 rr.
In this short clip, I tested full PAS (Pedal Assist) mode on my Luna Cycle X1 Enduro Ebike. Using PAS level 5 out of 5, I climbed to an elevation of 2,800 ft. The bike trail to the top of this mountain has a max slope of 50°. This small mountain is called Lizard Rock Mountain and its located in Sloan Canyon in Henderson Nevada, about 20 mins from the Las Vegas strip. I changed my Luna X1 chain ring from the stock 32 to to a 40 tooth chain ring. The stock 32 tooth was geared way too low. The new 40 tooth is working out great so far. In this episode we will attempt to complete all 35 miles of the River Mountains Loop trail in Boulder City, Nevada. This amazing trail is fully paved and runs through the Nevada's Lake Mead national park. The purpose of this challenge is for me to test the battery range of the Luna Cycle X1 Enduro eBike with my current ridding ability. Prior to purchasing the X1 electric bike, I rode approximately 16-20 miles per day multiple times per week on a non-assisted MTB. My girl, who is currently waiting for her X1 on preorder, decided to come along and rent a Haibike Sduro Trekking 4.0 from a local bike shop near the trail. The Luna Cycle X1 Enduro has a cost of about $4000 with upgrades while the Haibike costs about $2400. Will the Luna Cycle X1 easily out power the Haibike Sduro?
